Seniors Programme

Learning, Awareness & Joy – Together

What began as a two-hour seniors programme became a meaningful afternoon of learning, safety, music, and community connection.

On May 24, 2026, Newcomers Success Network Canada organized the Senior Citizens Knowledge & Recreation Session at Gore Meadows Community Centre in Brampton. More than 50 senior individuals took part in the event, making it a successful and encouraging gathering for seniors, families, volunteers, and community supporters.

The programme was created with a simple but important thought: seniors deserve spaces where they can learn, ask questions, meet people, and enjoy themselves without feeling rushed or overlooked. That purpose was clearly reflected throughout the afternoon.

The session opened with Digital Literacy and Online Safety, led by Jyoti Singh, Founder of AI and Marketing Agency, We Love Digital Marketing Inc. This topic immediately connected with the audience because technology is now part of daily life. Seniors use phones to talk to family, receive messages, check updates, book appointments, and manage personal information.

But with that convenience also comes confusion and risk.

During the session, seniors learned how to use digital tools more safely, protect personal information, recognize online scams, and avoid fraud. Many participants asked practical questions about suspicious calls, unknown links, passwords, online messages, and safe phone usage. The session did not feel like a lecture. It felt like a useful conversation that gave seniors the confidence to be more careful and independent online.

The next session focused on Alzheimer’s Awareness, guided by a healthcare expert. This part of the event brought attention to a subject many families experience but do not always know how to discuss. The session helped participants understand early signs of Alzheimer’s, memory-related changes, caregiving support, and the importance of emotional patience within families.

For seniors and caregivers in the room, this session offered more than information. It helped start a necessary conversation around awareness, support, and dignity. It reminded everyone that health education becomes more powerful when it is shared in a safe community space.

After two knowledge-based sessions, the afternoon moved into recreation with a musical session by Aparna Ragnekar, a renowned playback singer. Music changed the mood in the room. Seniors relaxed, smiled, listened, and joined in with visible enjoyment. It created the kind of moment people remember after the event ends — simple, shared, and real.

Complimentary light food and coffee added to the comfort of the gathering. Attendees stayed back, spoke with one another, exchanged thoughts, and enjoyed the chance to connect outside their regular routines. These conversations were one of the most important parts of the afternoon because they showed the real value of community programmes.

The success of the Senior Citizens Knowledge & Recreation Session was not only in the number of attendees. It was in the participation, the questions, the conversations, and the feeling that seniors were being included in topics that matter to their daily lives.

Through this event, Newcomers Success Network Canada once again strengthened its commitment to creating practical, welcoming, and useful programmes for the community.
